Prompt:

Design branding and packaging for a Chilean Pizzeria.

Research + Creation

I started by making a mind map in my notebook, thinking of any words that come to mind when I think of Chile. I thought of the flag, mountains, the coast. I looked up their national animal, the South Andean deer, as well as some of the Nation’s history. I decided to go with the name “Cordellera Pizza Company” inspired by the Chilean mountain range.

From there, I turned on some Samba music to get into the headspace, and started.

For the graphic elements of this branding project, I found a library of symbols used by the Mapuche, the Native people of Chile’s mountains. Specifically, they used a chain-like symbol to represent togetherness and community. I really liked this concept, and decided to implement the traditional chain imagery into the packaging I created.

For the pizzeria’s typeface, I used “BC Vajgar” by Briefcase Type. I decided on this due to the printed, rugged feel of the typeface, connecting back to the mountainous theme of the brand.

I created designs for pizza boxes, drink labels, and packets of pepper flakes, parmesan, and hot honey.

I also worked on some Spanish for this project!
